Discipline Builds Dominion

Men's Bible Study

Discipline Builds Dominion

Men’s Discipleship Lesson – Week 5 – 04/20/2026

Main Scripture Focus

1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV)
“But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”

Opening Thought

Discipline is not punishment. It is positioning.

If a man does not control himself, something else will control him.

A man can say he wants financial freedom, but if he spends without control—emotion, boredom, impulse—he is not free, he is led. Discipline is what breaks that cycle.

Key Truth

If your body leads, your life drifts. If your spirit leads, your life sharpens.

Main Teaching Points

1. Discipline Starts With the Body

Scripture:

  • 1 Corinthians 9:27
  • Romans 12:1
  • 1 Thessalonians 4:4

Paul makes it personal: “I keep under my body.”

Your body will always want comfort, pleasure, and ease. Discipline says no when necessary.

Teaching:
Discipline is daily and intentional. Sometimes it is uncomfortable. But it is always necessary. A man without bodily discipline eventually loses direction in every other area.

Discussion Questions:

  • Where is your body leading you instead of you leading it?
  • What physical habit needs control right now? (sleep, eating, discipline, laziness, etc.)
  • What area have you been excusing instead of correcting?

2. Guarding Your Heart Is Non-Negotiable

Scriptures:

  • Proverbs 4:23
  • Matthew 15:19
  • Luke 6:45

Your heart is the control center of your life. What goes in will eventually come out.

Music, conversations, media, bitterness, and unchecked emotions all shape the heart over time.

Teaching:
An undisciplined heart creates an unstable life:

  • emotions lead decisions
  • relationships become inconsistent
  • spiritual life weakens
  • reactions replace wisdom

A disciplined heart produces steady living.

Discussion Questions:

  • What have you been allowing into your heart that should not be there?
  • What boundaries do you need to set this week?
  • Where have emotions been leading your decisions?

3. Discipline Sustains Growth

Scriptures:

  • Hebrews 12:11
  • 2 Peter 1:5–6

Growth is not built on moments—it is built on consistency.

Discipline is not enjoyable in the moment, but it produces lasting fruit over time.

Teaching:
A man can start strong and still fail without discipline. Motivation starts things, but discipline sustains them.

No discipline = stop-and-start life
Discipline = steady progress

Discussion Questions:

  • Where have you started strong but failed to stay consistent?
  • What daily routine do you need to commit to for the next 7 days?
  • What pattern keeps breaking your consistency?

4. Discipline Protects Your Calling

Scriptures:

  • 1 Corinthians 9:27
  • Galatians 5:16
  • Proverbs 25:28

Paul disciplined himself “lest I be disqualified.” That is serious language.

Gifted men fall not because they lack calling, but because they lack discipline.

Teaching:
Discipline builds walls around your life. Without it, everything becomes vulnerable—temptation, distraction, compromise, and failure.

Discussion Questions:

  • What area of your life is currently unprotected?
  • What habits could eventually disqualify you if left unchecked?
  • What discipline do you need to rebuild protection in your life?

Closing Truth

Discipline is not restriction—it is protection. It does not limit your life, it strengthens it.

A disciplined man doesn’t just start well—he finishes well.
