Renewing The Mind

Men's Bible Study

Renewing the Mind – Winning Internally

Men’s Discipleship Lesson – Week 4 – 04/13/2026

Theme Scriptures

  • Romans 12:2
  • 2 Corinthians 10:5

Lesson Focus

Most men lose battles internally long before anything shows up publicly. The fight starts in the mind. Thoughts shape confidence, decisions, discipline, and direction.

If a man constantly agrees with fear, insecurity, failure, or defeat, his life will eventually follow those thoughts. But when the mind is renewed through truth, life begins to change from the inside out.

You do not accidentally win in life. You decide to win in your mind first.

Key Truth

You can’t live a renewed life with an old mindset.

Winning internally does not mean you never feel fear or doubt. It means fear and doubt no longer control your thinking or your decisions.

Main Teaching Points

1. Your Life Follows Your Thinking

Scriptures:

  • Proverbs 23:7
  • 2 Corinthians 10:5

Your direction in life is connected to your dominant thoughts. Wrong thinking produces wrong decisions. Renewed thinking produces transformed living.

Discussion Questions:

  • What has been dominating your thoughts lately?
  • How has your thinking affected your attitude or decisions?
  • Are your thoughts producing life or draining you?
  • What would change if your thinking aligned with truth?

Direct Truth:
You don’t drift into better living — you think your way there.

2. Not Every Thought Belongs to You

Scriptures:

  • John 8:44
  • James 1:14–15
  • 2 Corinthians 10:5

Not every thought that enters your mind deserves agreement. Some thoughts come from fear, past wounds, insecurity, or lies.

God calls us to take wrong thoughts captive:

  • Identify it
  • Challenge it
  • Replace it

Discussion Questions:

  • What thought have you been entertaining that is not truth?
  • Do you challenge wrong thoughts or let them stay?
  • Where do those thoughts usually come from?
  • What would it look like to take those thoughts captive immediately?

Direct Truth:
Passive men let thoughts sit. Disciplined men confront them.

3. You Must Replace, Not Just Remove

Scriptures:

  • Romans 12:2
  • Ephesians 4:22–24
  • Matthew 12:43–45

Removing negative thinking is not enough. Truth must replace the lie or the lie will return stronger.

If fear is removed, replace it with faith.
If insecurity is removed, replace it with identity in Christ.

Discussion Questions:

  • What negative thought have you tried to remove but not replace?
  • What truth directly challenges that thought?
  • Are you putting truth into your mind daily?
  • What scripture do you need this week?

Direct Truth:
Transformation happens through replacement thinking.

4. What You Rehearse, You Become

Scriptures:

  • Joshua 1:8
  • Psalm 1:2–3
  • Hebrews 12:2

Whatever you replay in your mind eventually shapes your identity. Rehearsing failure shrinks confidence. Rehearsing truth builds strength and stability.

Discussion Questions:

  • What do you replay most in your mind?
  • How has it affected your confidence?
  • What truth should you rehearse instead?
  • What are you feeding your mind daily?

Direct Truth:
You are training your mind every day — intentionally or by default.

5. Discipline Your Mind Daily

Scriptures:

  • Luke 9:23
  • 1 Timothy 4:7–8
  • Galatians 5:16

A renewed mind requires daily discipline through prayer, Scripture, accountability, and consistency.

Men who win internally are not occasional — they are consistent.

Discussion Questions:

  • Where are you mentally undisciplined right now?
  • What daily habit could strengthen your thinking?
  • Who holds you accountable?
  • What specific change will you start tomorrow?

Weekly Assignment

Write down 3 recurring negative thoughts.

Next to each one:

  1. Identify the lie
  2. Write a scripture that replaces it
  3. Speak that truth daily

Example:
Lie: “I’m not enough.”
Truth: 2 Corinthians 3:5

Weekly Commitment

“I will not let my mind run unchecked. I will replace lies with truth and discipline my thinking daily.”

Closing Challenge

You do not need a new life first — you need a renewed mind first.

Win the battle internally, and your decisions, discipline, consistency, and confidence will begin to line up with the truth God says about you.
